Fiat recalls 4.8 million cars

According to Reuters, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 4.8 million U.S. cars from a defect that could keep drivers from disabling cruise control.
The company have warned owners to not use cruise control until they have received the software upgrades.
Fiat have said that no injuries or accidents have been related to the recall scheme but said it had one incident of a driver in a 2017 Dodge Journey unable to deactivate the cruise control.
The company has not commented on how much the recalls will cost.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have said that it ‘strongly encourages vehicle owners to follow a warning’ and to stop using the function on the recalled vehicles until the appropriate upgrades have been made.
The recall involves numerous model years built from 2014 to 2019 model year. Some of the vehicles being recalled include: Chrysler 200, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks.
Fiat Chrysler claimed it uncovered the problem through tests its engineers had directed.
‘Notwithstanding the extraordinary circumstances that must exist before a customer would experience a problem, we are taking this action because we are fully committed to vehicle safety,’ said Mark Chernoby, Fiat Chrysler’s chief technical compliance officer.
