Ford and Google are expected to announce a joint partnership to develop autonomous vehicles at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA.
Neither company has yet to confirm discussions to create an independent joint venture in this field, but multiple news organisations have reported that the two giants are keen to pool their talents to get ahead of the competition.
It’s understood that if a deal is agreed, it will not be exclusive, leaving Google free to work with other manufacturers in the future.
Google is already working on its own autonomous models and has already logged 1.3 million miles in test driving.
Ford meanwhile, has committed billions of dollars to development between now and 2020.
