Nissan has set itself a target of selling one million electric vehicles a year by 2022.
It will develop eight new all-battery electric vehicles before then – all under different brands – in what it calls an ‘electric car offensive’. This even includes its luxury Infiniti brand, which will be either fully electric or hybrid by 2021.
Nissan sold 163,000 electric vehicles around the world in 2017, meaning it would need to achieve a six-fold increase to meet its sales target.
Much of this growth is anticipated to come in China, where Nissan will launch a new C-segment electric vehicle this year before following up with the introduction of an affordable EV through a joint venture with the Nissan-Renault Alliance and Dongfeng Motor.
