Oxbotica and Cisco launch platform for AV data

Autonomous software company Oxbotica and global networking leader Cisco have announced a partnership they hope will solve the autonomous vehicle data challenge.

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) can collect up to 1.2TB of data per day from sensors such as LiDAR, cameras and RADAR – the equivalent of 500 HD movies or 200,000 songs. This data needs to be ‘offloaded’ from the vehicle but existing data networks are not suitable.

They have developed a platform call OpenRoaming which would enable fleets of AVs, by partnering with Cisco, to automatically and securely connect to trusted Wi-Fi hotspots and networks without the need to enter usernames and passwords.
