VW to sell EVs under £17,400

Volkswagen has announced plans to sell electric cars for less than £17,400 and to convert three factories in order to make them, Reuters has reported.
Strategies for VW’s electric cars – also known as MEB entry – has a production volume planned for 200,000 vehicles. A supervisory board meeting is planned for the 16 November to discuss the plans further.
Reuters’ VW source also claimed that the company will be partnering with SK Innovation, a battery cell manufacturer, to help with its EVs production.
The supervisory board meeting will also examine VW’s plans to evolve from producing combustion engines to making electric cars.
The change of company strategy is a response to the banning of diesel vehicles. Vehicle manufacturers are finding new channels to maintain industrial jobs.
In order to make room for the production of EVs at VW’s Hannover plant, the production of company’s transporter vans might be moved to a Ford plant in Turkey.
As was reported in October 2018, the two companies, VW and Ford, are discussing a partnership to develop autonomous and EVs. However, the details of the deal have not yet been finalised.
