A new UK-wide survey by GiPA, the international automotive aftermarket intelligence company, has revealed that the volume of work in workshops has fallen by 85% as of the first full week of the government’s coronavirus lockdown.
During the period 30 March-5 April, GiPA UK interviewed 420 workshops in order to analyse the impact of the strict business closure measures on the UK automotive aftermarket.
In addition to the 85% drop in workload, the survey highlighted the following:
- Only 47% of workshops remain open (others were closed or available for emergencies only).
- Open workshops were working at 44% of their full workforce capacity.
The full report – available for £1,980 from GiPA UK’s Quentin Le Hetet – includes four waves of analysis until mid-May (updated every two weeks), provides detailed results per channel (OES and IAM), and estimates the overall workshop turnover loss affecting franchised dealers, independent garages, national networks and tyre dealers.
