French startup BlaBlaCar has launched BlaBlaLines – a new short distance carpooling and daily commute app and service.
BlaBlaLines will be phased in gradually and will only be available between a selection of ‘popular’ 50km commuter routes initially.
BlaBlaCar co-founder Frédéric Mazzella compared the new service to a subway or bus line with drivers notified of ‘pick up’ requests via the app. Passengers requesting trips are automatically assigned a line and a stop (similar to a bus stop).
BlaBlaLines is focused on being as frictionless as possible, automatically assigning stops and matching drivers with riders.
BlaBlaCar now has 40 million users and handles 12 million rides per quarter. It plans to expand BlaBlaLines in 2018 across the whole of France.
