German regulators approve VW fix

Volkswagen AG will begin technical fixes on 460,000 diesel cars after receiving German regulatory approval.

The approval from the Federal Motor Transport Authority applies to models with 1.2-liter EA189 engines including the Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza. Germany’s approval is valid throughout Europe.

VW is in the middle of one of the largest recalls in automotive history following dieselgate, which found the company had fitted software to cheat emissions tests in 11 million cars worldwide.  German regulators have already cleared about 4.5 million vehicles in a process Volkswagen expects to complete by the end of this year.
