IBIS Middle East 2025 lookback: A rainy start to a resounding success

IBIS Middle East 2025 kicked off with an unexpected twist as rain forced the welcome dinner—generously hosted by Axalta—to move indoors. What could have been a logistical hiccup turned into a serendipitous opportunity, fostering a warm and convivial atmosphere. Delegates and partners reconnected on the red carpet before mingling in a more intimate setting, setting the stage for what would become one of the most engaging IBIS events to date.

Shaping the Future of the GCC Automotive Aftermarket

The first session delved into the driving forces behind the evolution of the region’s automotive aftermarket. Frost & Sullivan highlighted shifting consumer behaviours and the growing demand for digital solutions, while Glasgow Research & Consulting shed light on the dramatic rise of Chinese car brands, which now command 15% of the UAE market and a substantial 30% in Saudi Arabia. YK Almoayyed Group brought these trends to life, showcasing an innovative digital solution in Bahrain designed to meet these emerging consumer demands.

Real-World AI Transformations

The spotlight then shifted to artificial intelligence with an enthusiastic presentation by nybl. Their CEO—a former bodyshop owner in Saudi Arabia—offered deep insights into AI’s transformative impact across the entire vehicle lifecycle, from resource extraction to insurance, claims, and repairs. Solera followed with real-world examples of AI-enabled solutions already making waves in GCC claims management. A live demonstration of an AI-assisted call centre, originally proposed by 3M, highlighted the advanced capabilities of AI in supporting—not replacing—customer advisors.

Equipping Leaders to Succeed

After a productive networking coffee break, Jeff Smith addressed the career progression challenges faced by automotive leaders. He unveiled the on-stage launch of the International Business Academy—an Ofqal-certified program offering professional qualifications tailored specifically to the automotive industry, culminating in the highest academic recognitions. This announcement struck a chord with delegates eager for structured leadership development.

Leadership Through Collaboration

A panel of esteemed industry leaders from E.K. Kanoo Bahrain, Wallan Group Saudi Arabia, Al Nabooda UAE, and Axalta EMEA shared their perspectives on the future of leadership in the region. Each speaker emphasized the importance of collaboration with mentors, educational institutions, insurers, and other key stakeholders. Their real-world examples of collaborative efforts driving national market changes left the audience inspired and brimming with ideas for adaptation and growth.

The New OEM World Order

Following a lunch break featuring interactive, gamified exhibitor stands, delegates reconvened for the final session, which focused on new OEM entrants. Representatives from BYD (Al Futtaim), Thatcham Research, and Gargash explored topics ranging from quality and reliability to insurance and sustainability for these emerging brands. Their contrasting insights into established versus newcomer OEMs, particularly regarding the second-hand EV market, sparked a lively exchange of questions and viewpoints.

A Fun-Filled Finale

The formal presentations concluded with a move to the Interactive and Educational Exhibition area, where exhibitors hosted a variety of hands-on demonstrations and lighthearted competitions—blending fun, friendly rivalry, and genuine learning. Prizes were awarded to standout participants during an informal ceremony, followed by a relaxed closing drinks reception, once again courtesy of Axalta. Attendees also engaged actively on the IBIS App, thanks to 3M’s sponsorship, which facilitated networking through QR code scanning on lanyards.

By day’s end, many attendees were reluctant to leave, a testament to the conference’s success. From the rainy opening dinner that turned into a bonding experience to the robust discussions about the future of the GCC collision repair industry, IBIS Middle East 2025 underscored the power of collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision for growth.
