India: all change for ARAI

The Times of India reports that the Pune based Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) intends to foray into other business sectors once all the centres under the centrally-funded National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) become fully operational.
A total of seven centres will be set up across the country under NATRiP. Some of the existing businesses of ARAI will move out. Pune, Ahmednagar, Manesar, Chennai, Indore and Silchar are the cities where NATRiP centers are located. The seventh for accident research, originally proposed in Raebareli, will be eventually merged with one of these centres.
‘We will create some more business sectors for us. We can scale it up to other sectors like construction equipment, agriculture tractors and engines which are not currently regulated, like off highway engines,’ said Rashmi Urdhawareshe, director of ARAI.
All centres are expected to have the same basic test facilities with each having some core specialisation.
