Nissan plans further job cuts

Fears about job cuts at Nissan’s Sunderland plant have risen after reports emerged that the company is planning up to 10,000 job cuts around the world.
This would follow losses to the workforce of 4,800 earlier in the year.
It’s understood Nissan is considering this restructure following a sharp decline in operating profits of about 90%. The fall in profits is attributed to a decline in demand in America, Europe and Asia, alongside the need to develop electric and autonomous vehicles.
It’s believed most of the job losses will occur outside Japan. There are about 8,000 Nissan workers in the UK.
