Lawyers taking on Volkswagen in the US are being paid $175m by the troubled car manufacturer.
Representing 475,000 owners of VW vehicles fitted with cheat devices, the lawyers had sought up to $332.5m in fees in what amounts to a $10bn settlement.
The latest deal with the lawyers means VW has now agreed to spend up to $16.7bn to compensate US owners and address claims from states, federal regulators and dealers arising from the ‘dieselgate’ scandal.
