Volkswagen Group has started 2017 on a high by delivering 813,700 vehicles worldwide in January with a growth of 4.9% outside of china.
In Europe deliveries rose by seven per cent, handing 312,900 vehicles over to customers. Western Europe handled 262,900 of those vehicles with a 5.8% rise in the region and the home market of Germeny accounting for 91,000 of those vehicles. The rest of Europe saw an increase in deliveries of 13.6%.
Customers in North America received 66,600 vehicles representing growth of nine per cent, the US accounted for 41,500 of NA’s units growing by 14%. While South America grew 8.6% with 39,600 units.
Deliveries in the Asia-Pacific region went in the opposite direction to the rest of the world with 368,000 vehicles being delivered, 344,000 of which were delivered to China – a fall of 14% on last year.
‘Following strong growth last year, special events in China affected deliveries at the beginning of the year. The increase in tax on vehicles with small engines and temporary restraint in planning on the part of Audi dealers had an impact on the sales results for January.’ said Fred Kappler, head of group sales of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, ‘However, we expect to continue healthy growth in China this year.’
