The Volkswagen Group saw a year-on-year increase in deliveries of 5.1% during June.
It handed over 883,400 vehicles to customers while, in total, deliveries for the first half of 2016 ran at 5.12 million units, representing an increase of 1.5% over the same period in 2015.
While the regions of Europe and Asia-Pacific continued to show solid growth, deliveries in North America were slightly down on the prior-year level. The South America region recorded a further decrease.
Fred Kappler, head of group sales, said, ‘Solid growth overall during the first half year is partly attributable to the strong performance in June. The main impetus came from the regions of Europe and Asia-Pacific. The pleasing result reflects our customers’ trust in our products even in these challenging times.’
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 2.93 million vehicles to customers worldwide in the first six months of 2016, just down on the 2015 level of 2.95 million vehicles. Deliveries in June were higher than the same month in 2015 though.
Fred continued, ‘The Volkswagen brand recorded an increase of 4.7% in June despite challenging conditions on key markets. In particular the stable performance in Europe and a strong result in China contributed to this positive achievement. The outstanding response to the new Tiguan provides further momentum for the second half of the year.’
