Daimler sets sights on EV market

Daimler plans to challenge Tesla and Volkswagen with up to nine electric vehicle models.

According to Reuters, the car manufacturer plans to roll out between six and nine EV models. It is still on course to unveil a new electric car at the Paris motor show, while in July it said it had accelerated development of premium electric cars, a segment currently dominated by United States-based rival Tesla.

It is understood the German company will also make an SUV model with a plug-in hybrid engine powered by fuel cells, which would have a range of up to 30 miles on battery power and would then run on electricity generated by hydrogen.
